Tibetan Baby Bag Project in South Settlements

MES Tibetan Baby Bag project raises parental awareness on the importance of early childhood care and education (ECCE) and its best practices. The project includes providing ECCE workshops to parents of newborns along with the distribution of Baby Bags containing high quality board books and play materials for the newborns.

From 12-15 August 2024, MES conducted ECCE workshops at Bylakuppe, Hunsur and Kollegal Tibetan settlements. MES team members Jamyang Gyaltsen, Kalsang Wangdu, and Ngawang Tseten led the workshop sessions. 181 parents of newborns participated in the workshop. The key topics discussed during the workshop include the importance and strategies for Language Nutrition, Free Play and Healthy Parent-Child Relationship in early years. In addition, parents were introduced to the key findings of the studies on sensitive period for early development, long-term impacts of adverse childhood experiences and language exposure at home in early years. After the completion of half-day workshops, all the participants received Tibetan Baby Bags.

From 2017-2024, a total of 1,196 Tibetan parents with newborns benefitted from the Tibetan Baby Bag project. This project was supported by the Tibet Fund
