From 2019 onwards, MES works with the Department of Education, CTA, to build the capacities of
Parent-Teacher Associations in Tibetan schools and to provide training to parents.
In August and September 2024, MES facilitated Positive Parenting workshops in Dekyiling and Clement
Town in Uttarakhand, and Miao and Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh. A total of 282 (202F/80M) parents took
part in the workshops. The workshop focused on three key topics - importance of parenting, long-term
parenting goals, and positive parenting strategies. Parents were trained on evidence-based parenting
strategies including modeling positive behaviors, validating children’s feelings, giving children freedom
of choice, respecting children, fostering reading environment at home, limiting screen time and
promoting gender quality at home. MES team members Kalsang Wangdu and Ngawang Tseten
facilitated the workshop sessions.
From 2019-2024, over 2,800 parents from Tibetan settlements in India have received the positive
parenting workshop.
