An education specialist, he holds a Master of Education in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University, and PhD in education from University of Turku, Finland. Formerly a teacher and school leader at TCV School Gopalpur and an Education Officer at CTA Department of Education, he was involved in leading the introduction of an innovative school-based teacher professional development practices in Tibetan schools. He has also conducted research on the education of Tibetan refugees and his scholarly papers are published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Curriculum Studies and the Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research.

Kalsang Wangdu serves as the Deputy Director of MES in part-time capacity since 2023. He holds a Master of Education in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University, and PhD in education from University of Turku, Finland.
